With dignity and grace, surrounded by her loving family, Doreen Wheeler of Point Edward passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, on Monday, May 15, 2017, at the age of 85 years. Cherished wife of Raymond for 65 years. Much loved mother of Gary (predeceased infant), Terry (Pam) Wheeler, Lynn (Greg) Hobin, Ron (Cheryl) Wheeler, Cheryl (Randy) McPhail, and Brenda (Graham) Cowan. Doreen was also blessed with and leaves precious memories with her 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Doreen is lovingly remembered by her siblings Shirley (the late Gib) Hummell, Anita (George) Potter, Carl (Diane) Smith, Betty (Dave) Millea, and many extended family members. Predeceased by her parents Lindsay and Annette Smith, and her in-laws Herbert and Pearl Wheeler. For 19 years, Doreen managed the Gift Emporium at Lambton Mall. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with prayers being offered at 8:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1465 Lecaron Ave., Sarnia, on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Special thanks and gratitude to her physicians, Dr. C. Arnold, Dr. K. Yoshida, Dr. M. Dostaler, Dr. A. Crombeen and her community care support workers for your dedicated care. With humble hearts, our grateful gratitude to the St. Joseph’s Hospice residence staff and volunteers for their superior care and compassion given to Doreen and her family during her extended stay.
