Death Notice

“I am who I am today because I knew you”

With deep grief, the family of Denise McKinlay wish to announce her passing.  Although she was courageous in dealing with illness, we wish for her to be remembered for her witty humour, love of learning, and her compassionate nature.  She was a true social worker with an innate ability to connect with those she encountered.  Denise was a champion of youth and social justice, loved nature and had a profound sense of spirituality that guided her in life and relationships.  Those Denise loved, she did with her whole heart, most importantly her husband Bob, daughters Becki, Megan and Heather, the lights of her life, grandchildren Nathan, Jacob, and Brier.  She has also forever impacted the lives of her mother Rosemary, father Harry and her sister Cheryl.  Her mother and father-in-law Colleen and Russ, brothers-in-law Randy (Cindy), Rod (Patti), Dave (Brandy) and sister-in-law Lori, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.

Cremation has taken place. We will be honouring her at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service being held immediately following. Please remember to celebrate and appreciate every day as she did. We will be having a celebration of life following the service at 5:30 p.m. at Best Western Guildwood Inn, 1400 Venetian Blvd, Point Edward. Please come and share memories of Denise with those who loved her. Hello
I am so sorry to read of Denise's passing. Her parents were our next door neighbours on Savoy St. As a 10 year old all I wanted to do was push that baby carriage up and down the street. So for me fond memories. That is where I learned to change a diaper. Rosemary and Harry were wonderful neighbours. Denis sounds like she lived a very purposeful and compassionate life.
Our condolences go to her whole family

My heart is saddened by the loss of such a lovely lady. I spent a lot of time at her house growing up with Heather. She taught me so much and was always there to offer advice and help in every way. Denise is a treasure! I am so blessed to have known her and your whole family. I am sending my biggest hugs and condolences. Xoxoxo
