H. Emerson “Sam” Whiting

Death Notice

Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Bluewater Health, H. Emerson “Sam” Whiting passed away at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Margaret for 63 years. Loving father of Eleanor (Joe) Kozoriz, Dan (Catherine) Whiting, and Sandra (Andrew) Shaw. Cherished grandfather of Andrea, Joseph (Charlene) and David Kozoriz; and Peter and Jeff (Serena) Whiting. Dear brother-in-law of Keith Thiel, Jack McLachlan, and Frank (Mary) Spears. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents James and Lois Whiting, and sisters Margaret Thiel, Emily McLachlan, and Dorothy Spears. Sam was an active, longtime member of Temple Baptist Church. He retired from Imperial Oil in 1986 after 36 years of service. Sam loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, or watching his tomatoes grow in his beloved vegetable garden. He was an active member of Bluewater Anglers and volunteered at the fish hatchery every Friday. Sam will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior to service. A private family interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Temple Baptist Church Day Camp or charity of choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).

 

Visitation

Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Service

A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior to service. A private family interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

Donations

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Temple Baptist Church Day Camp or charity of choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).

    Margaret very sorry to hear about Sams passing. He was a great man. Rick Harkins and my self went fishing with Sam and George at Algonquin park for 15 years. We had many good times together. We were sad to hear of Sams passing at church this morning.May God bless you Margaret

    Dear Mrs Whiting. Praying for you during this difficult time. Mr Whiting was my favour Sunday School teacher. He was an amazing role model for me as a child and as a young man. Someone who was always there to talk to and to give godly guidance to us kids coming thru the Temple Baptist Sunday School Program. He is a man I looked up to for all these years and still to this day feel blessed to have had him as a part of my life. I thank the Lord for that blessing he was in my life and I know without a doubt know that he has inpact many other lives for The kingdom.

    Will miss you Uncle Sam. You were always witty. Remember you giving us a hard time about getting married on the September long weekend. We were cutting into your hunting time. Will miss seeing him each time I come home. My sympathies to Aunt Marg, Eleanor, Dan and Sandy and your families. I will be there in spirit.
