After a long, hard fought battle, Tony passed peacefully with his loving wife by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the age of 80. He shared 59 years with his beloved wife Sally (née Leaver). Cherished father of Rick (Karen), Steve (Wendy) and LeeAnne (Dave) Cadieux. Predeceased by his daughter Alana, partner Jon Horner, and granddaughter Emma. Loving grandpa to Andy, Kait (Donnie), Nikki, Carly (Scott), Jacey, Nicole, Courtney and Chloe; and great-grandchildren Gage, Emerson and William. Dear brother to Tina (Rennie) Van Dalen, Jake (the late Diane), Hank (Pat), Nick (Josie), Marian (Charles) Winegard and Peter (Joan). Also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Tony grew up in Groningen, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He soon began working at Polysar, where he worked for 35 years as a process operator. He was the happiest with a fishing rod in his hand and he spent as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. Tony was an avid hunter in his youth, loved his motorcycle and was also a wonderful gardener throughout his life. We would like to thank Dr. Maddison and the entire staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for such compassionate care, the terrific C.C.A.C. nurses who cared for Dad at home, and the pharmacy team at Point Care for such great personal service. We would also like to thank everyone who has sent prayers and supported us throughout Tony’s long battle. Friends and family have been so wonderful and we feel very blessed to have all of you in our lives. Cremation has taken place.
Anthony “Tony” Nienhuis

Thinking of you LeeAnne and you whole family, at this very difficult time. His fight is over, but it was obvious that he was a man who loved his life and family and was not about to give it up easily.
With sympathies, Mary

I hope you all feel surrounded by much love at this sad and difficult time.
Tony is at peace now and is no longer in pain. Remember the happy times shared, and I know Steve has lots of fishing stories and memories shared his Dad. My thoughts and special prayers are with the entire Nienhuis Family.
