Updated November 17th, 2020
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is the regulatory body who governs the funeral profession. They have created a simple colour-code system of regional pandemic restrictions for funeral homes and cemeteries, aligned with the Government of Ontario’s move to a regional framework.
This means that restrictions for funeral homes and cemeteries can vary according to the status of their respective public health regions, from green/prevent, yellow/protect, orange/restrict to red/control and if necessary, full lockdown.
Please refer to the province’s framework and our local public health unit to be sure of the status of our community’s colour code.
Thank you to everyone for your patience as we try to transition, please do not hesitate to contact the funeral home if you have questions regarding our protocols and procedures.

Updated August 4th, 2020
Smith Funeral Home attendance restrictions have been updated as of August 4, 2020.
- Indoor Funerals and Visitations are permitted with a 30% capacity … Our in house capacity at Smith Funeral Home would be 90 ppl MAX
- Face masks are mandatory inside our facilities.
- Graveside/Outdoor Services have a MAX 100 attendees, however some cemeteries have chosen to remain at a limit of 50 attendees. Please inquire before planning graveside services.
- We strongly recommend continuing to have RSVP/Invite for your funeral services in order to control attendance and that your graveside ceremony is immediate family only. We are certainly willing to work with each individual family to come up with the best option that suits your needs.
This ease of restrictions still comes with some difficulty, and we want to make sure we are following the direction of the health care professionals and our government directives. If we are able to safely move to this new phase of services the hope is we will be able to transition into a more normal style of funerals and visitations in the coming future.
Thank you to everyone for your patience as we try to transition, please do not hesitate to contact the funeral home if you have questions regarding our protocols and procedures.
